Tuesday Re-up and Pialli Fix!

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

In addition to the Tuesday re-up, today we have an awesome white wine from a familiar face, Alessandro Pialli. His Tai Rosso red has been offered the last two seasons, and will definitely be back in the fall. (I opened a bottle last week with mildly-spicy Thai food – great pairing!)

Alessandro owns a small winery in the Veneto region, not far from Vicenza and Caserma Ederle, in the Colli Berici. The region has a growing reputation as a prime target for value hunters. Today’s wine, La Garghi, shows us why.

Alessandro Pialli - 2022 La Garghi Garganega

Pialli’s 2022 La Garghi is a distinctive and vibrant white wine with notes of white flowers, lemon cream, stony earth, and almond. This was the wine that initially inspired me to visit Alessandro Pialli’s small Colli Berici winery three years ago. La Garghi’s energetic charm and its mouth-watering length are an unforgettable combination.

You can find some La Garghi bottles in northern Europe, but Open Tuesday is the only way to acquire it if you’re in North America.

If possible, try pairing this wine with Venetian stalwart Baccala mantecato. Salmon or other full-flavored fish dishes would be great with La Garghi too

Available Wines (the re-up):

Cantina Colle Ciocco - 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino

Colle Ciocco’s 2018 Sagrantino di Montefalco is a full-bodied red that’s far fresher and more approachable than other Sagrantino examples on the market, especially at this price. This wine gives you fruit purity, nice flavor depth, and resolved tannins, with no oak in sight. Flavor notes include black cherry, tobacco, and black pepper. It’s definitely a wine that improves with air and food, especially Umbrian food.

Cantina Colle Ciocco - 2021 Trebbiano Spoletino Tempestivo

The 2021 Colle Ciocco Trebbiano Spoletino is a complex fuller-bodied white wine with a flinty mineral backbone and pretty notes of spiced peach fruit, hazelnut, and mediterranean herbs. Compared to the 2020 version we offered last spring, the 2021 fruit is a bit rounder, yet the wine maintains freshness and focus, with slightly more length on the palate.

Cantina Colle Ciocco - 2023 Vino Rosato Brixio

Colle Ciocco’s 2023 Brixio is a highly drinkable, refreshing rosé (rosato in Italian) with a firm backbone and sneaky flavor depth. It’s a very balanced rosato, with moderately grippy tannins and notes of orange, forest fruit, and nuts. There’s an underlying zing of acidity that makes this a great candidate for outdoor dining and appetizers. And if you drink this wine in December, it will bring sunshine to your dinner table. I promise.

Ciro Biondi - 2022 Outis Etna Bianco

Ciro’s 2022 Outis Bianco is a medium-bodied white with a brisk, understated energy that keeps you coming back for more sips. It’s a refined representation of the Carricante grape (plus 10 percent Cattaratto and Minella), with crunchy citrus fruit and a persistent, flinty, salty finish.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 12th offer of our 2024 spring season. Through the first week of November, we plan to send offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – spring 2023.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in late November-early December for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
