Frequently Asked Questions

The Wines

How does Open Tuesday select wines?

We look for those sweet spot wines that are both delicious and offer great value, at every price point. These are the wines that we would advise our friends and family to buy, even if Open Tuesday had never become a business venture.

What kind of wines do you guys at OT prefer?

Stylistically, our wines are food-friendly and refreshing. Some may be more serious and structured than others, but they are always lively and refreshing. We favor traditional-style wines over modern-style wines. That is, we prefer well-balanced wines without strong oak, alcohol or sugary flavors.

Is there anything else I should know about the wines?

We believe that finding great, up-and-coming producers is the key to helping you drink better wines for less. Their wines tend to have limited availability outside of Italy. We especially love to work with family-owned Italian wineries specializing in organic, biodynamic or sustainable farming.

Ordering

I've received an email offer for one of your wines. How do I place an order?

Just click on the link in your offer email and enter the number of bottles you would like to purchase.

Will I always get the exact number of bottles I request?

We will do our best to allocate all the bottles you request, but when there are more requests than bottles available, everyone gets one bottle before anyone gets a second bottle. After that, allocation is determined on a first-come, first-served basis.

How will I know if my request is accepted?

When we close the wine offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. This is when we charge you for the wines.

Where can I see the status of my wine orders?

Log into your Open Tuesday account and go to the Orders tab. This will let you know how many bottles you’ve ordered recently and how close you are to filling a case of 12.

Why are some of my orders marked as “Pending” while others are “Allocated“?

We do not finalize orders with a producer until the offer period closes and all of the customer orders are in. An order with “Allocated” status means we have finalized the agreement with the producer and the wine has been allocated to your account. In other words, it’s destined to arrive at your doorstep fairly soon.

Where can I view the current Open Tuesday offers?

Log in to your account and go to the Offers tab. We also maintain a Wine Offers page on the public website.

I can’t decide which wines to order. Can you select wines for me?

Sure, just email us at [email protected]. We’re more than happy to help.

Shipping

How many bottles should I buy to get a good price on shipping?

We ship in increments of 12. This allows us to use 12-bottle cases, which keeps your shipping costs down. Your cases can be a mix of many different wines or 12 of the same wine.

When will my wine ship?

We ship at the end of our spring and fall offer seasons, when temperatures are mild, to lower the risk that your wine will be affected by extreme temperatures. Once you have purchased at least 12 bottles, we will schedule a shipment for you in the next shipping window.

How much does shipping cost?

We charge 5 dollars a bottle, or $60 per case. That’s about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Do you ship to my country?

We currently only ship to the U.S., but we’re hoping to ship to more countries in the near future.

Other Questions

Can I reorder a wine if I like it?

Unfortunately, our logistics model makes this very difficult at present. Your best bet is to send an email to [email protected], and we will try to include the wine in our next tranche of offers. In the future, we plan to offer some wines even after allocations have been finalized.

Can I place my order through email?

Sure, but…by far the fastest and easiest way to order is to click the link in our email offers. If you need any help, please e-mail us at [email protected].

Do you have a phone number?

Not yet. But we are quick with email responses. If you need to talk to someone, please e-mail us at [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What if I get a corked bottle?

Corked bottles are an unfortunate fact-of-life in the wine business. Just email us at [email protected] and we will give you a full refund.
