Tuesday Re-up and Nebbiolo (Occhetti) Fix!

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

New producer alert!!

I met Stefano Occhetti while hanging out with Federico Scarzello at a wine event in Torino last year. Apparently, Occhetti’s wines have become quite popular with the Sommelier set in New York and San Francisco.

While that can be a good thing, just as often it means a wine with too much overt funk at an inflated price. So, despite the Scarzello endorsement, I was a touch skeptical…

Until I finally tasted the wines a few months ago in Rome.

Occhetti’s Nebbiolo wines leave an impression. They are fruity but not sweet. Complex but not taxing. Perfumed but not overbearing. Most of all, they are unique. And sumptuous. (But still fresh!!)

I’ll have more background on Stefano in the future, but for now, please check out a few of the vivid photos on his website.

This wine sells for $35 and up elsewhere.

Stefano Occhetti - 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo

Stefano Occhetti’s 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is a gorgeous fruit-driven red wine that checks all the right boxes – balanced, crisp, layered, and redrinkable. It shows plenty of dark cherry and stones up front, supported by subtle notes of pine, earth, smoky herbs, and leather. This wine is borderline hedonistic!

Available Wines (the re-up):

Contrada Salandra - 2020 Campi Flegrei Falanghina

Contrada Salandra’s 2020 Falanghina is a vibrant medium- to full-bodied organic white wine made in the Campi Flegrei, just to the west of downtown Napoli. It’s a balanced and fresh Falanghina, showing subtle notes of honeysuckle, apple, and pear.

Altre Vie - 2019 Barolo

Scarzello’s 2019 Altre Vie Barolo is an expressive and refined red wine that shows bright red fruit, vivacious acidity, and beautifully integrated tannins. This chiseled Barolo will age in your cellar for up to ten years, but it’s already a joy to drink.

Altre Vie - 2022 Roero Arneis

The Altre Vie 2022 Arneis is such a fun white wine. It’s bright and crisp, with gippy pear and quince fruit notes. I tried it at Rimessa Roscioli in Rome with a small group of friends over the holidays and it disappeared before I could get a second glass. Rimessa is selling so much of this right now that I’m surprised we were able to secure a small allotment for an OT offer.

Altre Vie - 2022 Dolcetto d’Alba

This 2022 Dolcetto shows the juiciness and drinkability of Scarzello’s Barbera wines, yet it’s a little more compact, firm up front, and light on its feet. What a terrific every day wine for pizza, burgers, antipasti, or…well, just about anything.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 3rd offer of our 2024 spring season. Through the first week of November, we plan to send offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – spring 2023.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in late November-early December for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
