Tuesday Fix: Calabrian Cool

Sergio Arcuri

Today, we have two wines on offer, both produced by Sergio Arcuri, both great opportunities.

Sergio made the 2021 “Il Marinetto” Rosato (rosé) many of you enjoyed from our spring 2022 season. Until a few days ago, my intent was to offer only the next vintage of that wine, the Sergio Arcuri 2022 Il Marinetto, which was just released.

But when Sergio informed me that he could set aside a small parcel of his 2018 “Aris” Cirò red for us, I couldn’t resist adding it at the last-minute. This 2018 Aris Ciró is a singular and classic expression of Calabria’s native Gaglioppo grape. In my book, Ciró is Italy’s most underrated noble red wine. (Arguments for Schioppettino, Barbera, and Aglianico are also accepted.)

Sergio Arcuri - 2022 “Il Marinetto” Rosato

Bottom Line - Sergio Arcuri’s Il Marinetto is a silky, highly drinkable rosato (rosé) made from Calabria’s native Gaglioppo grape. This wine is crisp and inviting at first sip, yet, much like the 2021, it doesn’t communicate its full charm until the last glass of the bottle. Be sure to drink with friends and have a second bottle ready!

My notes: “Oranges and apricots on the nose; salinity and energetic fruit on the palate; velvety texture, salmon color, good grip, and no excess sugar. I’m all in – this is the best rosato made in southern Italy.”

Sergio Arcuri - 2018 “Aris” Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore

Bonus Fix - Sergio Arcuri’s Aris Cirò is a medium-bodied red wine that packs an energetic punch of mineral-laden dark fruit. It’s somehow both a powerful wine and also a finesse wine. The feathery light form and rich southern flavors are captivating and delicious together.

My notes: “Ripe strawberries, with a hint of fresh tomato on the nose; complex and lingering on the palate; black cherry, clay, and wet stone. Perfectly integrated tannins; no oak. Both explosive and elegant!”

Open Tuesday’s price for both wines is lower than any current offer in North America.

Additional Available Wines (Re-up)

Diego Rivetti - 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo

Diego Rivetti’s 2021 Nebbiolo offers crisp cherry fruit and a firm core, with plenty of grip and length. It’s a terrific value for Langhe Nebbiolo at this price point. As the wine opens up, it reveals notes of anise, orange peel, and clay.

Diego Rivetti - 2021 Roero Arneis Criculin

Diego Rivetti’s 2021 Roero Arneis is a medium-bodied, rich white wine with verve and persistence. The Arneis fruit aromas jump out of the glass to fill your senses, with piercing pear fruit and subtle nutmeg and almond notes in evidence.

Castello Tricerchi - 2021 Rosso di Montalcino

The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is a delicious medium-bodied red wine with a fruit-forward profile and lots of length. There’s a subtle minerality, but the pretty morello cherry notes speak the loudest in this wine.

Castello Tricerchi - 2018 Brunello di Montalcino

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a stately full-bodied red of great harmony and balance. The flavors linger on your palate effortlessly and endlessly.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris and Rob

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. But when there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

Today’s fix is the eleventh offer of our spring 2023 season.

Through February and March, we are sending offers on Thursday and Sunday, with a recap of the past week’s offers on Tuesday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – fall 2023.

Wines offered in the spring will ship in April for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
