Spring Season Kickoff - Scarzello Altre Vie

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

Barolo is always a good place to start the season, right?

Today we have a Barolo, a Dolcetto, and a new white wine from an Open Tuesday superstar – Scarzello.

I love working with Federico Scarzello and his wife Federica Sterpone.

The wines continue to be sensational. The Scarzello Barolo, Barbera, and Langhe Nebbiolo we shipped in the fall deliver unrivaled quality for the money.

What’s more, Federico and Federica are always looking to introduce me to top quality, up-and-coming Langhe producers. Rosavica Benotti is one Scarzello referral. More are on the way.

(By the way, the 2019 Scarzello Barolo from the fall probably needs time in your cellar, or plenty of decanting, before the first sip. Meanwhile, today’s Scarzello Barolo Altre Vie, from the same vintage, is ready to go).

With today’s offer, I’m happy to announce and support a new Scarzello project – Altre Vie.

This is a partnership with fellow Barolo artisan Gian Luca Colombo in which the two vintners purchase prime local grapes from like-minded smaller Langhe growers. The wines, partly aged in amphora, are styled with a specific focus on communicating a sense of place, and being more approachable upon release.

Less oak aging can mean lower prices, and that’s certainly the case here. I can’t recommend these wines enough. Drinkability is their calling card.

Altre Vie - 2019 Barolo

Scarzello’s 2019 Altre Vie Barolo is an expressive and refined red wine that shows bright red fruit, vivacious acidity, and beautifully integrated tannins. This chiseled Barolo will age in your cellar for up to ten years, but it’s already a joy to drink.

Altre Vie - 2022 Roero Arneis

The Altre Vie 2022 Arneis is such a fun white wine. It’s bright and crisp, with gippy pear and quince fruit notes. I tried it at Rimessa Roscioli in Rome with a small group of friends over the holidays and it disappeared before I could get a second glass. Rimessa is selling so much of this right now that I’m surprised we were able to secure a small allotment for an OT offer.

BONUS WINE

Altre Vie - 2022 Dolcetto d’Alba

This 2022 Dolcetto shows the juiciness and drinkability of Scarzello’s Barbera wines, yet it’s a little more compact, firm up front, and light on its feet. What a terrific every day wine for pizza, burgers, antipasti, or…well, just about anything.

To order, just click the one of the blue links above and follow the prompts.

Check out this video from Rimessa Roscioli’s visit to Scarzello a few years ago.

Scarzello’s cellars are located in the very heart of the town of Barolo (here on the map).

Wine-Searcher is your friend; it’s easy to do a quick internet search to compare pricing with other online retailers. Here are the going rates for today’s Barolo and Roero Arneis.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

If you have any questions or feedback, please email us: [email protected].

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the first offer of our 2024 spring season. Through the end of March, we plan to send offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 16-18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season.

Wines offered in the spring will ship in April for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
