Le Ragnaie - 2019 Troncone

Beta Offer #1 of 18

Bottom Line Up Front: This is the perfect Tuesday night wine, and thus the perfect first offer for Open Tuesday Wines. Le Ragnaie’s Troncone is all about drinkability. The bottle disappears before you know it.

In 2013, some of us in the original Open Tuesday group spent a week working the harvest at Le Ragnaie. We had Troncone during lunch every day at the winery.

I loved the Le Ragnaie winemaking style back in 2013, and I still do. The wines are both refreshing and complex. There's no hint of excessive oak, sweetness, or alcohol.

Troncone is the best value in the Le Ragnaie lineup, and it might just be the single best wine value in all of Tuscany. It’s quintessential Tuscan Sangiovese. The acidity is crisp, and the tannins are smooth.

The savory Tuscan herb notes seem to jump out of the glass when I smell this wine. The bright cherry fruit asserts itself in the mouth, creating a wine of balance and freshness.

Le Ragnaie - 2019 Troncone

This wine is great with just about any meat dish or red sauce dish. I’ve had it with pizza and spaghetti bolognese. Just a few nights ago, the 2018 Troncone paired beautifully with a costoletta alla milanese (breaded veal cutlet.) I also wouldn’t hesitate to open it as an aperitivo. Maybe snack on some taralli or Cheez-Its while you’re at it.

By now, the wine world is well aware that Riccardo and Jennifer Campinoti, owners of Le Ragnaie, are among the premier producers of Sangiovese wines in Tuscany. Their Brunello di Montalcino wines are in high demand and more difficult to find every vintage. In the near future, we hope to offer you a few examples of these world-class wines.

In the meantime, why not spend a Tuesday or two sipping on this world-class value Sangiovese. Open Tuesday has the lowest price in the U.S. on Troncone (by 4 cents!).
