I Favati - 2019 Fiano di Avellino “Pietramara” black label

Beta Offer #3 of 18

Bottom Line Up Front - I Favati has long been my favorite producer of Fiano di Avellino - Italy’s greatest white wine. (No arguments accepted!) Being able to offer one of I Favati’s wines is a real pinch-me moment for us at Open Tuesday. All of their wines are superb, and this Fiano is the best value of the bunch.

Fellow wine geeks,

The Open Tuesday team visited the I Favati family winery outside of Avellino in January. We arrived at 11:00 am and left at around 4:15 pm. It was the longest and most enjoyable winery visit of my life.

There may have been a chance for us to leave after about 90 minutes, but owner Rosanna Petrozziello insisted on pouring her impressive lineup of wines alongside some of her favorite local artisanal foods. After a few hours and a few courses, we were happily rescheduling all of our afternoon appointments. Rosanna found us an incredible restaurant and a hotel in Avellino. It was a good day to be in the wine business!

Over the last two decades, I Favati has established itself as one of the top wine producers in Campania. We also love the Greco di Tufo and the Taurasi wines, and hope to offer you those wines before too long. Here’s the I Favati neighborhood on a map: Cantine I Favati

Here are a few photos of the Pietramara vineyard where this wine is made: https://www.cantineifavati.it/azienda/galleria-foto.html

At the winery, Rosanna served us local roasted chestnuts, olives, and prosciutto with this wine. If you don’t have those on hand, I Favati also advises that it pairs well with antipasto and seafood in keeping with the traditions of Mediterranean cuisine.

This is a palate-cleansing Fiano that’s all about minerality, vibrant acidity, and flavor depth. It’s also the rare white wine that improves after one or two days of being open. As the wine breathes, it starts to show complex ashy notes from the volcanic soil in the vineyard. But don’t be surprised if you have trouble saving any juice from day one!

Unfortunately, Fiano isn’t as undiscovered as it used to be. The word is out, and prices are on the rise. Still, a top example like I Favati is an excellent value proposition for under $25. This is arguably Italy’s best white wine, Fiano di Avellino, from undeniably one of its best producers, I Favati.

How it works:

After clicking one of the blue links above, you’ll have the chance to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do! You’ll next see a request confirmation page, followed by a confirmation email.

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we were allocated to your account. We only charge you for wines when they are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. But when there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines!

This I Favati Fiano is offer number three of 18 during the spring private beta test. We are sending offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday for six straight weeks.

We encourage you to ship in increments of 12. With a total of 18 offers in this tranche, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the beta test, we’ll get in touch to work out a solution.

Wines will ship in late May-early June for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship from coast to coast in the U.S.

Once your credit card is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer. Your payment method can be added during your first order. The online payment service Stripe protects your credit card information.
