Wine friends,

First, a quick reminder – through this weekend, we’re offering a new $20 credit for your Open Tuesday social media posts on Facebook.

Just share one of our recent posts on Facebook with your FB friends, and write: “I love buying wines from Open Tuesday!” (Or whatever else comes to mind). Send us an email and we’ll credit your account $20 before shipping your next case.

Now, back to wine…

I wrote about my affection for Friulano last fall, when we offered Marco Sara’s 2021:

What makes friulano so special? To me, it’s the way friulano’s coiled herbal fruit elegantly gives way to a persistent mineral finish. In a well-made Friulano like Marco Sara’s, that flavor shift is dramatic, and harmonious.

Today’s featured wine, the next vintage of Marco’s Friulano, is equally moving and drama-filled.

Compared to his 2021, Marco’s 2022 Friulano shows rounder fruit, with similar length and focus. The melon flavors in evidence are a touch riper, and the nut-like notes are slightly more pronounced. It’s a wine that can be enjoyed in the near term, but will certainly evolve and improve in the cellar for 5-10 years.

Marco Sara - 2022 Friulano (Friuli Colli Orientali)

Marco Sara’s 2022 Friulano is a poised, fruit-forward white wine with a long and savory mineral finish. Friulano, formerly known as Tocai Friulano, is widely regarded as one of Italy's best whites, and Marco Sara ranks among its best interpreters.

Bonus Wine

Marco Sara - 2021 Cabernet Franc (Friuli Colli Orientali)

Marco’s Cabernet Franc is heady, opulent organic red wine with dark expressive red fruit. The style has little in common with the Cabernet Franc examples made elsewhere in the world. This wine shows no oak, no overt alcohol, and no doctored-up saturation. It’s the real thing. Nothing but delicious green pepper- and raspberry-tinged Cab Franc goodness, alla Friuli.

Ours is the lowest price in the U.S. for Marco Sara’s 2021 Cabernet Franc.

Bordeaux grapes like Cabernet Franc and Merlot have been a mainstay of Friuli’s wine production for so long that the locals now regard them as part of the local terroir.

Here’s Marco Sara on the map of northeastern Italy. Marco only makes about 25 thousand bottles of wine a year.

Like many of Marco Sara’s wines, the Friulano is often poured by the glass at Osteria Francescana, aka the world’s best restaurant. The Cabernet Franc is often sold by the glass at Cantine Isola, aka Milan’s best wine bar. (As many Open Tuesday members can attest).

Friulano, formerly known as Tocai Friulano, is native to this part of Italy. Evidence of its existence in the Friuli region dates back to the 12th century AD.

Marco’s Friulano is always terrific with roasted vegetables, chicken or fish dishes. Marco likes to serve his Friulano with fish, risotto con asparagi (Italian rice with asparagus) and cjalcions (stuffed ravioli-like pasta), a typical northern Friuli dish.

The cab franc works well with dishes seasoned with pepper or herbs (such as rosemary, oregano, or thyme). I’ve recently enjoyed it with pepper steak, eggplant parmesan, and brisket.

We are the only retailer in North America already selling Marco’s just-released 2022 Friulano.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 10th offer of our 2023 fall season. Through the first week of November, we plan to send offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – spring 2023.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in late November-early December for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
