Fall Season Kickoff - Scarzello di Barolo

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

Barolo seems like a good place to start the fall season, right?

In the fall of 2022, I wrote that our Scarzello offer had: “probably more wine value… than any other offer during the fall season. Both of these wines are a screaming good deal for what you get.”

Let’s take that a step further…

Today’s offer has more wine value than any offer in Open Tuesday history.

Why?

Because the wines we have today are just as good as, if not better than, the wines from that memorable fall 2022 Scarzello offer – with pricing that’s a touch lower.

Plus, the Barolo is from a historically great Piedmont vintage, 2019. It’s easily one of the best wines we’ve ever sold.

Scarzello - 2019 Barolo del Comune di Barolo

This is a beautiful, stately red wine that shows bright fruit, lively acidity, perfect tannins, and relatively low alcohol. The grapes are sourced from two prestigious vineyards, Sarmassa and Terlo, both located just to the west of the historic Barolo town center. This is a Barolo that will age in your cellar gracefully for 20-30 years, if that’s your preference.

Compared to the 2018 Barolo del Comune di Barolo, the 2019 has more complexity, flavor depth, and energy.

NEXT UP

Scarzello - 2020 Barbera d’Alba Superiore

This 2020 Barbera is on the same quality level as Scarzello’s spectacular 2019. It’s a bit more muscular, while showing less oak than the 2019. Not to worry, there’s just as much juicy Barbera goodness in this 2020.

The barbera fruit comes from two renowned Barolo vineyards, Paiagallo and Sarmassa, which are mostly planted to nebbiolo.

BONUS WINE

Scarzello - 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo

This Scarzello Langhe Nebbiolo is sourced from young vines that will eventually yield Barolo fruit. Not surprisingly, the wine shows tons of Barolo character. Langhe producers commonly refer to their young vine Nebbiolos as a gateway drug to the great red wines of the Langhe. This wine is a superb example that’s sure to scratch the nebbiolo itch for a relative song.

To order, just click the one of the blue links above and follow the prompts.

Check out this video from Rimessa Roscioli’s visit to Scarzello a few years ago.

Scarzello’s cellars are located in the very heart of the town of Barolo (here on the map).

This family owned and operated house makes about 45K bottles of wine per year.

Google is your friend; it’s easy to do a quick internet search to compare pricing with other stores.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the first offer of our 2023 fall season. Through the first week of November, we plan to send offers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season.

Wines offered in the fall will ship in late November-early December for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
