Classic and Noble - Contucci

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

Wine friends,

*This is the 18th and final offer of our spring season!

Most of the wines you’ve ordered this spring are already on their way to our shipping partners in Tuscany, where they will soon be packed and prepared for a temperature-controlled flight across the atlantic.

(Please make any shipping address updates this week!)

We end the season in Montepulciano, with the noble and classic red wines of Contucci.

Whenever possible, I like to step aside and let Roscioli’s Alessandro Pepe preach a bit of wine truth. Contucci’s Vino Nobile is one of his favorite topics:

“Here you have a wine region dating back to before 1000 AD…1010 years of single-family ownership…65 years of work by cellar master Adamo…a room of frescoes dating to 1701…a cellar constructed in the original 13th century old town walls…traditional winemaking techniques with large barrels and no trendy French barrique…and no technological or cellar gimmicks to make a (manipulated) modern style. What more do you want from a wine?”

By the way, Alessandro’s new Roscioli outlet in New York City is the talk of the town these days. Like Roscioli and Rimessa Roscioli in Rome, the New York location is all about spreading the joy of great Roman food and wine. Open Tuesday members will likely recognize a few of the bottles on the wine list, including Contucci…

Our Italy-direct pricing is about $5-6 lower than the best price elsewhere for the Contucci Vino Nobile. As you can see, we are also the only retailer already selling the acclaimed 2019 vintage.

Contucci - 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ($26.95)

The 2019 Contucci Vino Nobile is a medium- to full-bodied red wine with classic balance and impressive flavor depth in an excellent Tuscan vintage. The texture is sleek and the flavors are nuanced and pretty. While the wine is near translucent, it has enough structure, lean tannins, and formidable acidity to age for 10-15 years in your cellar.

Contucci - 2022 Rosso di Montepulciano ($19.95)

Contucci’s 2022 Rosso di Montepulciano is a medium-bodied, fruit-forward red wine that’s refreshing and surprisingly complex at this price. Fresh notes or morello cherry, ash, and cacao are prominent. This is the perfect red wine for less serious midweek meals and aperitivo time.

To order, just click one of the blue links above and follow the prompts.

Contucci was one of the "founding fathers" of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation, as documented in 1773.

Both of today’s wines are made with 80 percent Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese), 15 percent Canaiolo, and 5 percent Mammolo, all three of which are native Tuscan varieties.

Here’s Contucci on the map of central Italy.

Please check out Rimessa Roscioli’s video at Contucci.

Food pairing: The Vino Nobile pairs beautifully with savory dishes like stews, roasted and grilled lamb, steak, grilled mushrooms, and high quality salami or prosciutto. The Rosso is more versatile still, capable of matching midweek pizza, lasagna, or even grilled cheese.

These Open Tuesday bottles will be sent directly from Italy, by air, in a temperature controlled environment. No hot warehouses, and no retail shelves.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

If you have any questions or feedback, please email us: [email protected].

Receive a $25 credit for every referred member after the purchase of their first bottle.

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. When there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

This is the 18th and final offer of our 2024 spring season. In February and March, we sent 18 wine offers to Open Tuesday list members.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36.

If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of this spring season, we can hold your wines until the fall offer season.

Wines offered in the spring will ship in April for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
