Cannonau Ghirada Fittiloghe - Cantina Vike Vike

(Sign up to receive Open Tuesday offers like this one by text or by email.)

The Tuesday Fix is back! We send out a Tuesday Fix from time to time when we have an unexpected opportunity to offer a unique wine. You can also scroll down to see this week’s Re-up.

Cantina Vike Vike - 2019 Cannonau Ghirada Fittiloghe

Bottom Line - Cantina Vike Vike’s 2019 Cannonau is a racy medium-bodied red wine produced in high altitude Mamoiada, in eastern Sardinia. In recent years, the town of Mamoiada has become a hotbed of winemaking innovation and experimentation, where a group of upstart producers is reimagining Sardinia’s most famous wine, Cannonau. The goal is to make expressive wines that are fresh and elegant, rather than heavy and alcoholic. Today’s wine, the Vike Vike 2019 Ghirada Fittiloghe, makes a convincing case for this Sardinian wine revival.

My notes: “Crisp black cherry, rhubarb, herbal notes. Nothing alcoholic or jammy on the palate; vibrant minerality with bright fruit; integrated tannins. A lovely Cannonau with energy and fruit purity.”

This Rimessa Roscioli video of Simone talking about his wines is a must watch!

Food pairing: Simone loves this wine with “Roasted Sardinian Cheeses!!!!!” If, like me, you know nothing about roasting cheeses, try a more simple tray of cold Sardinian cheeses and/or salami. Generally speaking, crisp Cannonau like this is terrific paired with pasta in meat sauces, stews, and pork dishes. Why not try making maialetto sardo (Sardinian roast suckling pig)?

Currently, this wine can only be found in Italy and northern Europe.

Additional Available Wines (Re-up)

Rosavica Benotti - 2021 Barbera d’Alba

Rosavica Benotti’s 2021 Barbera is an exuberant, food-friendly red wine made in Priocca, Roero, just north of Alba, in the Piedmont region. This wine hits all the right notes, with an ideal balance of juicy fruit and savory earth.

Rosavica Benotti - 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo

This Langhe Nebbiolo is a vibrant medium-bodied red wine that gives the taster a clear sense of why Nebbiolo-based wines from the Roero are both unique and in demand. It’s an honest, expressive, and complex Nebbiolo that goes down way too easy.

Giuseppe Cortese 2021 Langhe Bianco Scapulin

This is a Langhe Bianco from Chardonnay grapes, and it’s the only white wine Cortese produces. As unique and flavorful as Scapulin is, somehow, it’s not currently available at any wine shop in North America.

Giuseppe Cortese 2019 Barbaresco Rabajà

Cortese’s Barbaresco Rabajà is a legendary and singular Piedmont wine. This 2019 version is our favorite among recent vintages. It shows unparalleled flavor intensity and beautifully nuanced fruit.

Giuseppe Cortese 2019 Barbera d’Alba Morassina

Cortese’s Morassina is a complex and complete Barbera that’s near impossible to find in North America. Especially Morassina 2019!

Giuseppe Cortese 2021 Langhe Dolcetto

Giuseppe Cortese’s Dolcetto offers terrific red wine value for an under $20 bottle. This fruit-driven wine is juicy, authentic, and crushable.

Happy Tuesday,

Chris

How it works:

After clicking one of the links above, you’ll be able to request 1-12 bottles. Actually, that’s all you have to do!

About a week later, when we close the offer, you’ll get an email confirming how many bottles we allocated to your account. We will charge you when the wines are allocated.

We’ll do our best to allocate all the bottles you request. But when there are more requests than bottles available, we’ll allocate one bottle to all requesting members before allocating a second bottle to anyone. We want as many members as possible to try these wines.

Today’s fix is the sixth offer of our spring 2023 season.

Through February and March, we are sending offers on Thursday and Sunday, with a recap of the past week’s offers on Tuesday.

We ship in increments of 12. With 18 offers this season, there should be plenty of chances to get to 12, 24, or 36. If you don’t have an increment of 12 at the end of the fall season offers, we can hold your wines until the next offer season – fall 2023.

Wines offered in the spring will ship in April for $5 per bottle (if you have an increment of 12.) This is about the same as the price to ship coast-to-coast within the U.S. – but our wines come directly from Italy.

Once your payment method is on file, you can make future requests with just a few clicks from the offer email. If you don’t have a card on file, you can add one during your first order. Your personal financial information is protected by Stripe.
